Bought It Online? Yes, We Install It

Last updated: July 2026

Yes. If you bought a stereo, dash cam, remote start kit, GPS tracker, or security system online, we will install it. Plenty of shops refuse customer-supplied equipment; we take that work across Reno and Sparks every week.

This page covers why other shops say no, what to check before you buy, and how the edge cases (wrong part, dead on arrival, warranty) actually work. Fastest answer of all: call (775) 528-6325 with your part numbers and vehicle, and we will tell you on the spot.

Why Many Shops Say No

Two honest reasons. First, margin: shops make part of their living selling the equipment, and installing your online purchase means losing that revenue while still doing the hard part. Second, risk: when a customer arrives with gear the shop never specced, the shop inherits compatibility problems it did not create. A head unit that does not fit the dash opening. An amp the stock wiring cannot feed. A dash cam that shipped without its hardwire kit. Some shops would rather skip that conversation entirely.

We handle it differently. Send us what you bought, or plan to buy, along with your year, make, model, and trim, and we will tell you straight whether it fits before install day. That is already how we run car audio installation in Reno: we work with all major brands, whether we sourced the gear or you did.

What to Check Before You Buy

Five minutes of checking saves a return label:

  • Head unit size. Single-DIN or double-DIN has to match your dash opening, and most modern dashes also need a vehicle-specific dash kit to finish the trim properly.
  • Harness and interfaces. A vehicle-specific wiring harness avoids cutting factory wires. Steering-wheel controls, a factory backup camera, factory amplification, or factory navigation you want to keep each require the right interface module. This is where most online purchases come up short.
  • Amp power vs stock wiring. A serious amplifier needs proper gauge power wire off the battery, an inline fuse, and a signal source. The amp alone is not a kit.
  • Dash cams. Confirm the hardwire kit is in the box if you want parking mode. Many cameras ship with only the cigarette-lighter cable.
  • Remote start. The most vehicle-specific category of all. The kit has to match your exact vehicle, key type, and transmission. Ask us before you order this one. Still deciding whether it earns its keep? Read our take on remote start in Reno winters.

What If the Part Is Wrong, or Dead Out of the Box?

Straight answer: it happens, and it is the main risk you carry with customer-supplied gear. If we catch a mismatch before touching the car, you return the part and we reschedule. No harm done. If a problem only shows up mid-install (a unit that powers up dead, a hidden incompatibility), we stop and tell you before doing anything else. We lay out your options, including replacement through the retailer you bought it from, and go over any charges before we proceed. Nothing gets billed as a surprise.

How Warranty Works on Customer-Supplied Gear

Two separate warranties, two separate doors. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation itself: the wiring, the mounting, the integration. The equipment warranty stays with the manufacturer and the retailer you bought from, so a unit that fails six months in goes back through your receipt. We can diagnose it, confirm the unit is the problem rather than the install, and fit the replacement as a normal appointment.

One catch worth knowing: some brands only honor their warranty when the product is both bought from and installed by an authorized dealer. Compustar, for example, states its warranty applies only to products purchased and installed by an authorized retailer, and units bought from marketplaces like Amazon or eBay are not covered. Check your brand's warranty terms before you buy online.

What to Have Ready When You Book

Year, make, model, and trim. Exact model numbers for everything in the box. Photos of your dash or windshield if you are not sure what you have. And the accessories answered: harness, dash kit, hardwire kit, interface modules. Send that with your booking and the install runs like any job where we supplied the gear ourselves, mobile at your home or work in the Reno-Sparks area, or at our location.
